Jacob from the beginning

Brad and I were waiting for Jacob to arrive for a very long time. Trying to get pregnant is not as easy as you think; at least that was my case. After almost a year of trying we finally went to talk to my OB to discuss the situation. Because of my past complications, my doctor wanted me to do ultrasound just to se where we are standing. At this time, my mother was in town so because I knew it would be at least 2 hours visit at doctors office I took her with me. My husband finished work earlier so he decided to join us at the office and after all we all wanted to go for a nice dinner.
After the ultrasound we have finally seen my doctor. First I did not understand everything what he was saying, maybe because originally I am from Poland and English is not my native language or maybe I was too nervous. Any way, we have find out that I am 6 weeks pregnant. That was a miracle. I was trilled, we went to see my doctor to talk about the options and here we were, already on the way to become parents.
I was crying, Brad was crying, my mom was crying as well. It was a great moment, once in the lifetime.
It is so funny. I felt great all those 6 weeks and as soon as I have find out that I am going to be a mommy, morning sickness arrived. What worse, it did not leave me for 3 months, day and night. What is even more funny, I work at the casino, I am a food and beverage supervisor, and I do work around food. For all those women who ever had morning sickness know that to much aroma around you when you are pregnant is not a good thing at all.
But I have decided that I am going to be the tough one. I missed one day at work thru my whole pregnancy. I have to admit that my great bosses helped me a lot and they did work with me, but still, it was rough. All my friends and family could not understand why am I at work, as I wrote earlier, I am from Poland and in my home country pregnant women have paid maternity leave through the pregnancy. But I did enjoy working; I was very proud being pregnant so I wanted to show everybody how happy I am.
Months went by, and it was amazing how 8 months went fast, last weeks were the longest. I have started feeling bad, I have swollen so bad that I bought shoes one size bigger and I could not even put my foot in it. My doctor have started doing some tests and one day, exactly April 25th he asked me a question: “Do you want to have that baby today?” I was shocked but I was so anxious to see Jacob and when I have find out that he is not going to be considered premature, that 37 weeks is safe I said: “OK”.

Introduction

My name is Magda and I am starting this blog, along with my husband Brad, to share stories of our son and (hopefully) helpful tips for babies and children.

Jacob was born on April 26th, 2007 at 12:38AM. He arrived 3 weeks early due to some minor complications, but he is very healthy and strong!

It's been nearly 4 weeks now and already the stories are piling up! His first day at the hospital, his first day at home, his first feeding without a nurse handy, learning to wait to pee until diaper-changing time, and many more. All of them fair game, at least until he's old enough to read :)

I hope you enjoy the stories and learn something useful along the way!

Thank you for visiting and come back often!
